This recipe comes from Lady Bertha, Barony of Bjornsborg (Recipe for Sanbusas Turnovers)
Ingredients
Melt the butter with oil. Combine the flour and salt in a bowl. Add the butter and oil. Stir vigorously until combined, then add the water until the dough holds together ans comes away from the sides of the bowl. Wrap the dough in plastic and let rest in the refrigerator while preparing the stuffing. This can be frozen and comes out just as crisp when defrosted and use for whatever.
This recipe comes from my mother’s Great Aunt Edna Pottenburgh, (Don’t know how old the recipe is, she was born in the late 1800’s.) She is the sister of my Great Grandma Euler. (Mothers’ side of the family) The Eulers came from Germany in the late 1600’s and settled in Rhinebeck, NY.

Cream shortening, sugar, eggs. Add molasses. Beat. Sift flour, salt, spices. Add soda to sour milk and add alternately with flour mixture. Bake in a moderate oven.

This recipe comes from my Grandma, Ethel (Larson) Euler (Grandma (Larson) Euler’s family came here from Alesund, Norway in the late 1800’s, Larson was spelled with an “e” instead of a “o” in Norway. They settled in Minnesota)

Boil sugar and milk for 5 minutes. Add butter and boil until it forms a soft ball in cold water. Remove from heat and stir briskly for a minute. Add nuts and vanilla. Pour into buttered pan and make into squares when partly cooled.

Heat grapefruit juice, add cornstarch mixed with a little water to make a paste, and stir. Let mixture cook for 5 minutes. Add the lemon juice and stir in good. Let cool and thicken.

Wash and stem grapes. Crush. Add water. Bring to a boil. Let simmer well for 10 minutes. Strain through cheesecloth. Measure by quarts and add 1 cup sugar for each quart of juice. (or 3/4 Cup according to taste-I (Grandma Euler) use 3/4) Boil hard for 10 minutes. Bottle while hot. Double recipe for my (Grandma Euler) large kettle. Double recipe makes about 2 dozen medium sized bottles.

Separate 4 eggs. Beat till stiff 4 egg whites together with 1/8 tsp. cream of tartar, 1 tsp. salt. Add 1/2 cup sugar. Beat until very stiff. In another bowl put 4 egg yolks, 3 Tbs. water, 1 tsp. vanilla. Beat until thick. Put 2 mixtures together. Beat well. Add 1 cup cake flour, 1 Tbs. cornstarch. sift and fold into cake mixture. Wash small cucumbers, sterlize jars, etc. Vinegar in blancher to boil. Drop in cukes til turn color. Boil 2 parts water to 1 part vinegar. Put 3 Tbs. salt (Quart jar) Grape leaf, stalk of dill and piece red pepper with pickles in jar. Cover with water, vinegar mixture.

Chop peppers and onions fine. Cover with boiling water and let stand 5 minutes and drain. Put in large pan, add vinegar and sugar and salt and boil 5 minutes. At once put in hot sterilized jars and seal.
